St Romedius, California

In the 4th century AD St. Romedius was travelling on horseback over the alps to Northern Italy. Along the way a bear attacked and killed his horse. Instead of killing the bear, St. Romedius took his saddle and threw it over the bear, riding the bear the rest of the way. This legend, besides being really badass, really speaks to our winemaking philosophy and has become the namesake of our brand. In our case, the grapes are our bear and you can try to guide them as best you can, but at the end of the day, they cannot be tamed. With cautious guidance and encouragement (and the occasional veering off in a completely unexpected direction) we end up with wines that are unique, lively, and showcase the natural beauty of that specific variety or site.  St. Romedius is a tiny label based in Napa. Founded by the former assistant winemaker of Far Niente Winery, we focus on making small production California wines from rare or overlooked varieties and appellations. We source fruit that is organically or sustainably farmed and take a low intervention approach in the cellar using native fermentation, little to no additions, and no fining or filtration.  Inspiration for the different wines and styles comes from the our diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds and experiences. Our goal is to make affordable, fun and unique wines that have brightness and life while pairing well with a variety of foods and occasions.
